Geoff Eales and Isorhythm
Geoff Eales is regarded as one of Europe's most inspirational pianists and composers.
He is fluent in many musical languages; blues, bebop, swing, ragtime, gospel, latin, fusion, classical, the avant-garde and more. It is in the realm of jazz and improvised music that the full extent of Geoff's musical personality is revealed.
Geoff's musical journey began in South Wales Valleys when his jazz-loving father taught him to play the twelve bar blues, at the age of eight. He studied music at Cardiff University, and after, his MA, specialised in composition. Geoff then decided to broaden his horizons and toured the world as a ship's musician, absorbing the music of many different cultures, which had tremendous influence on his later work.
On returning to London, Geoff was a member of the BBC Big Band, working with arrangers such as Nelson Riddle, and fine jazz vocalists including Marian Montgomery, Rosemary Clooney and Norma Winstone. He became one of the most sought after pianists on the London session scene and, from 1999, he began recording highly acclaimed jazz albums. Geoff has performed at many leading jazz clubs world wide, from New York's Birdland to London's Ronnie Scott's.
Geoff formed Isorhythm in 2010. To celebrate his 60th birthday they toured the UK and his birthday Gala Concert at London's South Bank, in March 2011 was another important landmark in his ever evolving musical story.
Geoff appears for NCJazz, at The Castle, with Isorhythym ; Ben Waghorn, saxes and bass clarinet, Carl Orr, guitar, Fred T Baker, bass guitar, and Asaf Sirkis, drums.
