The Jim Mullen Organ Trio with Stan Sulzmann
Jim Mullen began his musical life aged 8 playing "tea-chest bass" in a skiffle group. He got his first guitar the same year and when an older friend introduced him to jazz, he was hooked.
In 1975, he met sax player Dick Morrissey and began a 15-year association which produced seven albums and became one of Britain's top club bands. After Dick Morrissey's death, Mullen worked with jazz vocalist, Claire Martin, (three albums) and formed a series of quartets (three albums). In 2007, he recorded Smokescreen which featured his organ trio with Stan Sulzmann.

Nick Weldon Trio with Emilia Martensson
Nick Weldon is a powerful, swinging pianist; his improvising is inventive and searching, yet, at the same time, highly melodic and steeped in the blues tradition.
He combines his love of playing in a trio with his great skill as an accompanist in a new set of improvisations with double bassist, Tim Wells, drummer, Felix Weldon, and singer, Emilia Martensson.

Killer Shrimp
NC Jazz aims to present a diverse spectrum of contemporary jazz, the familiar and the new, and consequently is pleased to present Killer Shrimp at the Castle.
Formed in 2006 by Damon Brown, trumpet, and Ed Jones, tenor saxophone, the group has toured constantly since its inception.
Damon described Killer Shrimp, working jointly with Ed, as "a project which is very much a culmination of many years spent with each other's bands and friendship on and off stage; a vehicle for writing and playing and expanding into new areas." They recruited Mark Hudson, double bass, and Alyn Cosker, drums, to the band and embarked on a successful journey in jazz and improvisation. Killer Shrimp won the Parliamentary Jazz Award Best Jazz Ensemble 2007. Their first CD, Sincerely Whatever, was also nominated that year for Best Jazz CD.
